The only scam I've ever ran into involves folks constantly changing the amount of money they put in the trade box. They seem to offer exceeding high amounts for crappy things (ie. Palawa Joko) and then change them to low offers.

Its quite pathedic to see that some people are so low as to try to scam a person in a game.

I'll admit I play the market, honestly I do. I do things like buy low sell high. So I was doing my normal, working a bit higher than usual on some mini pets and req 8's. So this guy says he's selling a chaos axe. He didn't mention anything about it's stats so I said let me see. He opens the trade window and sure enough it's the whole nine yards I ask how much he wants for it. The guy says 7k. I said, "you're kidding right?" He and I argue for a good two or three minutes before he finally says buy it or not, I don't want to be banned for scamming you. So I did the deal, feeling bad, hoping to sell the sword and hand him off half the profit or something. As soon as I do the deal, he logs of, never to be seen again. I still haven't decided if it was a random act of kindness or just someone being really dumb.

I turned around and sold it for 100k+20e I think. It was a profitable day I'll admit that. I pretty much retired from playing the market with that. ^^;;

EDIT: for spelling and price.

The usual; They put 75g into the trade window, instead of 75k. Of course I've never been scammed, cause I'm not that dumb, but it is comical.

But what's really funny is the time when a guy did something of that nature, and he said ''Omg I promise I will pay you back, after I Ebay more gold in a bit lol''. I just chuckled Irl and took screen-shots of it, I still have em'.

there was a scam which i cant believe i fell for it, and didnt think about it in the first place.

i was putting ad about running master for nahpui quarter mission for 3k and this rit guy lvl 10 say he would like me to run the mission him. i said ok 3k, pay before i kill the last boss, and he agreed.

i fought all the way up to the position near to hai ji, the last boss i wanna kill and asked him to pay, and then he said, "no, i helped u to get here along the way". the only thing he helped me was getting killed most of the time and make my hero/hench waste rez signet. he said he is going to pay afterwards, then i said we agreed on this, pay now and i kill the boss. seeing endless argument and time ticking towards 25 minutes, i told him good bye, not ending the mission, and warped back to town. what a waste of my time....

after that i realized how he just wanted me to power level him up... coz i remember something he said about buying his level up to level 20.

since then i only do mission run for lvl 20 people...

I rarely use the player market, I prefer to get the things I need for myself. When I do use it I normally sell low and buy high as I *want* to have the transaction take place more than I want the gold.

Though, there is one time that pretty much stands out in my mind. Before the release of Factions I decided to blow some plat on a Rago's Fire Staff (which I still own and like to use quite a bit). So I take my ele, remove the going price plus my general 25% extra to get the trade moving, and go to the Deldrimor War Camp and start watching the trade channel (I have refused from the start to purchase from anyone spamming local).

After a few minutes there is someone saying "WTS rago" with a price right at "standard" so I try and purchase from them. They open trade, put their Rago's Staff in the trade window and I carefully mouse over it and make sure I read everything in triplicate - it's good so I start to type in the amount the person wants payed. About the time I click to put the money in the window closes, no big deal that has happened before. Since I trade with other players I want to make sure - I whisper the person and explain and the agree to re-trade. The staff comes up, I read in triplicate, put the money, click offer ... trade window closes. This happens quite a few times and the person says it is a known bug. I don't keep up with scams so I have no idea what is going on. I apologize (assuming it is something I did) and redo the above with the window closing quite a few times. Eventually I give up and go back to watching the trade channel.

About ten minutes later the same person comes back and claims they are now working - so we go through the whole above scenario again. At this point I figure there is some scam going and make sure to check *everything* - still after 10 or so minutes of trying no go and we quit trying until the "bug" is fixed.

About this time someone comes on, spams WTS for less than I had with the previous person. I whisper them, offer between their WTS and the last offer (they take some time deciding, I assume they figure I was a scammer offering more than they asked), and finally accept. I get my rago's cheaper than I intended, they get more than they wanted, we are all happy. Then a few minutes later I get another whisper to from the other guy to give it another go and they knew how to get around it - I decline.

Amusingly enough while I had to go to the forums and research the scam to figure out what was going on I would have known better than to do it. The trade window is there for a reason and trading outside of it is a no-no. That person wasted nearly 30 minutes on me, it would have never worked.

When I found out what they wanted to do I found this VERY amusing - why go through that whole 30+ minute scam when (assuming I was going to fall for it) they could have gotten the same thing in less than ten minutes? I'm pretty sure I was the only mark during that time too based on their spamming of "wts rago staff".

The sad thing is that scammers have really hurt the legitimate givers. Again, I hate the player market so I sell low and purchase high. There are times where it is *easier* to sell high and purchase low due to people thinking you are a scammer. Let alone have a green/gold that isn't worth fooling with trying to sale (I make more during that time by actually farming) yet good enough that you do not want to let it go into the bit bucket in the sky (merched for 35g) so you give it away.

And no, don't bother to ask me for anything (I can't tell you how many people have asked for free stuff from me after similar posts) - you will *not* get it as any time I feel like bothering with such things I must initiate it.

One day I was looking for a consulate docks transfer in kamadan, advertising "Looking for consulate transfer, pay X gold". Eventually some guy accepts, and tries to just get me into the Consulate, the instance. And then claimed that I should pay him the gold...

I remember a while ago when Icy Dragon Swords first came out.

There were several scammers trying to sell ice from the Sorrow's Furnace quest saying that if you if you used the ice on a Fiery Dragon Sword it would turn it into an Icy Dragon Sword.

The things people try!

Geees you guys have it wrong half the trade ones aren't even pathetic scamming attempts, most times they could be explain as a mistake or just trying to fool an idiot.

Yes if you can't take the time to read 5g and realise its not 5k your an idiot.

The most pathetic scamming attempt i know of rarely happens any more, and it not some stupid trade dispute, runner not paying or getting paid... and its certainly not the old /a drop steal trick (If you fall for that your worse then an idiot with brain damage).. its the good old fashion shake-down.

"Give me <add gold amount here>k or I'll report you for spamming/botting/cheating/scamming."

So I think, alright, it'd be funny to see that he does. We both go outside of Kamadan, and tells me to drop, as I'm very far away from him. It took me a good 20 seconds before I realized his trick. I spilled it for him: He was trying to teleport back into Kamadan before I could pick up my item so it'd get deleted. Right after I said that, he cried about getting scammed or something, and losing 100k. I effing rofled.
Wouldn't the item dropped in this case still appear to you once in town as your unpicked loot in the small storageish pop up box? Sometimes when I don't want whites or blues from a mission or whatever the box keeps being VERY persistent from town to town until I accept my unpicked loot...

Not sure if it would've worked in your case but I'm pretty sure it would.

But either way that's just sad! Taking revenge on someone random because of their own stupidity...

That's only for missions and such. And yea, I find that annoying to. I don't decide to pick up some loot, and it sticks with me until i take it. (This jellyfish wand was in there for like 6 months before I got tired of it).

FYI, this scam was like 1 month before EOTN, and the dude was level 3, so I highly doubted he was gonna take my things.

This was pretty pathetic, 2k for 10k exp, darn rip-offs..

Otherwise the usual stuff, 17g instead of 17k etc.
Lots of people also offered like an ID kit with 8 uses left, 2 random whites, a blue item & a mini pig, when I was trying to sell a mini Vizu.
Not sure if it was scamming or just plain ignorance..
